Ingrid Vink (Learn! Foundation) and Jacqueline Jumbe Kahura (LIBA, Kenya) definitely share one belief: ‘Education is the only key to the future. Without education, the chances of getting out of the poverty spiral are actually zero’. Undoubtedly an important cornerstone of the fruitful cooperation between the two foundations. Learn! Foundation started its activities in 2009. Initially spread over several countries. Gradually, the realization grew that working with more focus and the benefiting from the support of a strong, reliable local partner (LIBA in this case) could bring more value than fragmentation. As from that moment the focus was on education related projects in the Kilifi region of Kenya.
Jacqueline Jumbe Kahura impresses with her drive and passion for education for the poorest and most vulnerable in her country. Her professional commitment is widely acknowledged. Where LIBA Foundation articulates the learning needs within the Kilifi community, the cooperation with Learn! Foundation is leveraged to initiate and fund projects. Many projects have been completed successfully over the years: Building schools, setting up nutrition programs at schools and producing school uniforms in the local sewing studio are considerable achievements.
‘I feel grateful – together with the children who are concerned – for the opportunities we get as a foundation to share knowledge and means. Because so often it holds true: Whatever the question is, education is the answer’, Ingrid concludes.

Ingrid Vink (Learn! Foundation) en Jacqueline Jumbe-Kahura (LIBA, Kenia) delen één overtuiging: ‘Onderwijs is wat ons betreft de enige sleutel naar de toekomst. Zonder onderwijs is de kans dat je uit de armoedespiraal komt eigenlijk nihil’. Ongetwijfeld een belangrijke hoeksteen onder de vruchtbare samenwerking tussen beide stichtingen. Learn! Foundation startte in 2009 haar activiteiten. Aanvankelijk in meerdere landen. Gaandeweg groeide het besef dat focus en een sterke, betrouwbare lokale partner (LIBA in dit geval) meer waarde kon brengen dan versnippering. De focus kwam te liggen op de regio Kilifi in Kenia.
Jacqueline Jumbe-Kahura maakt indruk door haar gedrevenheid en passie voor onderwijs aan de allerarmsten van haar land. Haar inzet wordt breed erkent. In 2015 was zij finalist in de prestigieuze Best Teacher Prize. ‘Teachers in Kenia verdienen meer aandacht en een betere opleiding. Gemotiveerde en goed opgeleide docenten gaan het verschil maken in Kenia. Zij helpen al deze getalenteerde kinderen op weg. Er zijn nog zoveel kansen te verzilveren. LIBA is er klaar voor’, stelt Jacky.
LIBA draagt de behoeften aan uit de communities. Samen met Learn! Foundation worden de projecten uitgevoerd. Het bouwen van scholen, het opzetten van voedelprogramma’s op school en het lokaal produceren van schooluniformen zijn enkele successen.
‘Ik voel me samen met de kinderen die het betreft dankbaar voor de kansen die wij als foundation krijgen om te kunnen delen. Whatever the question is, education is the answer’, sluit Ingrid af.
